Our Meeting Reschedule Policy

If a general meeting is cancelled due to bad weather, the meeting will be re-scheduled for the next Tuesday, same time, same place.

Catch a glimpse of the wintering eagles before they head back north to their breeding habitat. $12 per person. First come, first served.

Date: 5/22/10 Wayne County Historical Society Clean-up and Picnic

Place: Lock house 31, Route 6, Hawley, PA 9AM

 

The Lackawaxen River Conservancy joins the Wayne County Historical Society in their annual Lock House 31 clean-up and picnic.  The Wayne County Historical Society has launched this project with a view to preserving an important aspect of local history and creating a recreational trail.  The mile-long section of the canal/towpath, including Lock 31 House and the adjoining sixteen acres, will constitute the first (in PA) public greenway along the former canal.  The clean-up will be followed by a picnic and short wildife program.

Bring lawn equipment: rakes, trowels, pruners, loppers, weed whackers, gloves, etc.

Kickoff Event—River Month

Celebrate the River of the Year on a three-day overnight sojourn on the beautiful Lackawaxen from Honesdale to Lackawaxen, PA. Experience this pristine, pure, and powerful treasure. The sojourn will feature educational programs good food, fun and adventure. This first ever Lackawaxen sojourn promises to be a memorable experience.

Tour area dams and learn what they do and why they were constructed.  The program will include visits to Prompton, Jadwin, Seeleyville and Keene Lake Dam.  Picnic lunch included.

Place: Honesdale Chamber of Commerce, Honesdale, PA 9:30 am & 2:30 pm

 

Revel in the breathtaking fall colors on a 4 1/2 -hour round trip ride along the shimmering Lackawaxen River, named "2010 River of the Year."  The Lackawaxen River Conservancy will have narrators aboard to help raise awareness of the Lackawaxen River.  Clap and sing along as our merry musician strolls through your vintage coach.  Step back in time as you detrain in the Victorian village of Lackawaxen and tour the Zane Grey Museum, marvel at the engineering masterpiece of the Roebling Aqueduct Suspension Bridge, and be on the lookout for wildlife, including eagles.
