AWARDS!!!

Lackawaxen River Conservancy members Gordon Wildermuth and Tom Zeterberg were recently recognized by the Northeast Pennsylvania (NEPA) Environmental Partners, who selected the men to receive a NEPA Environmental Partnership Award. Now in its 17th year, the awards are presented for achieving excellence in environmental protection or conservation in Northeastern Pennsylvania while involving and working successfully with others in pursuit of these accomplishments.

Wildermuth and Zeterberg were recognized for their efforts as strong advocates of green infrastructure planning, resource conservation, smart growth and innovative planning implementation tools as they worked to address the tremendous growth pressures facing Pike County and their local municipal officials.

Described as “model community leaders, true activists, tireless volunteers and committed advocates of natural resource conservation,” the two men donate many hours to such volunteer roles as the following: the Shohola/Lackawaxen Comprehensive Plan Committee, Pike County Planning Commission, Alliance to Keep Pike Green, Pike Scenic Rural Preservation Board and Bond Referendum, PPL’s Public Advisory Board and Pike Conservation Partnership. They are also directors of the Lackawaxen River Conservancy

Volunteer Recognition!

At a banquet held at the Best Western in Matamoras on Friday, November 4, 2005, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce recognized Gordon Wildermuth and Tom Zeterberg for the vital contributions they have made to ensuring that the natural resources, landscape and wildlife of Pike County will be preserved in the future.  As founding members of the five-year-old Lackawaxen River Conservancy, the first watershed group established in the 598 square mile Lackawaxen River Watershed, Wildermuth and Zeterberg have been at the forefront of crucial efforts to maintain the balance between environmental preservation and development as Pike County faces increasing pressures of rapid growth.

In introducing the honorees, Frederica Leighton, President of the Conservancy, noted that thanks to “their environmental pro-activism and interaction with partnering organizations, real progress affecting attitudes toward land use is already occurring.  These positive steps will no doubt affect Pike County’s landscape many future years from now.”

TLRC Anti Litter Community Service

TLRC has joined the PENNDOT Adopt-a-Highway Program.  Towpath road (SR4006) starting at Martin Road, Kimbles and proceeding east two miles will be the focus of TLRC volunteers providing litter pick-up twice a year.  Volunteers are welcome to join our efforts toward preserving a clean environment of the scenic Lackawaxen River corridor.
